Homeless pets in the Philadelphia metro area will have a better chance finding a loving home thanks to a partnership between PetSmart Charities® and the Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly). With support from Petsmart, the two organizations have teamed up to open a pet adoption center in the PetSmart store at 2100 Chemical Rd, Plymouth Meeting, PA.
“Our partnership with the Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia allows us to promote pet adoptions and reduce pet homelessness in the local community,” said Jan Wilkins, executive director, PetSmart Charities. “We are thrilled to bring this Everyday Adoption Center model to Philadelphia; each of these adoption centers allows us to save, on average, more than 1,000 pets every year.” Since May 2010, PetSmart Charities has helped save more than 65,000 pets by opening similar adoption centers in 12 states.
The new Everyday Adoption Center in the Plymouth Meeting store will be open seven days a week during the store’s operating hours and includes:
- Kennels for adult dogs, puppies and small dogs
- Cat adoption center
- Play areas for dogs awaiting adoption
- Meet-and-greet areas for prospective adopters and their families to get acquainted with the pet(s) they want to take home.
