Philadelphia Phillies’ All-Star Second Baseman, Chase Utleyand wife Jennifer Utley take astand against animal abuse.
Chase and Jennifer Utley are pleased to announce their newest effort in the fight against animal abuse: The Utley Foundation. Passionate animal advocates, the Utley’s have worked alongside the Pennsylvania SPCA for several years to help spread awareness of the increasing epidemic of animal cruelty. Through the Utley Foundation, they will not only be able to continue to support the Pennsylvania SPCA, but also expand their efforts to stop animal cruelty by educating children on the proper treatment of animals.
In 2008, Chase and Jennifer Utley began their public support by hosting a series of Utley All-Star Animals events to support the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Etana Fund, which helps prevent and protect against future abuse and neglect through their Humane Law Enforcement department. The department investigates an average of 17 cruelty cases each day to prosecute criminals to the fullest extent of the law. Seeing a need to not only help prosecute animal abuse criminals, but also put a stop where the abuse starts, the Utley’s formed the Utley Foundation.
Jennifer, a lifelong animal lover, has been a fierce advocate for animal welfare in Philadelphia. Through her involvement with the Pennsylvania SPCA, Jen saw first hand, the devastating effects of animal cruelty and neglect. And as anyone who volunteers helping animals will tell you – the work is satisfying – but can be overwhelming. The Utley’s have said when their fight against animal abuse seems overwhelming they simply look at Jack – their gentle and very good-looking Pit Bull Terrier (and our cover model!). Jack’s father was a “prize fighter” and his mother was rescued in one of the largest raids of a dog-fighting ring in Philadelphia history. Jen says “Jack’s the love of our lives. He reminds us every day why we have to continue our journey to end animal cruelty, forever.” Just one look at our handsome cover model and it’s easy to see why.
The Utley Foundation’s mission is to educate the community about the proper treatment of animals and fund non-profit organizations that are active in the fight against animal neglect, pain, and suffering. The Utley Foundation’s launch has raised awareness and much needed funds through some amazing events:
- Over the course of 4 years the Foundation has raised over $1 million with its Utley All-Star Animals Casino Night.
- Dedication of the “Kindness to Animals” mural in partnership with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.
- Save a Pet at the Park is an annual event started by Jen and the Phillies Wives at Citizens Bank Park. Fans holding tickets to the game can partake in a silent auction and are encouraged to bring donation items for the Pennsylvania SPCA, who also bring adoptable pets to the game. Over the past 4 years the event has raised over $183,000 for the Pennsylvania SPCA.
- This past July, Jennifer and Bernie Robbins Jewelers hosted the Roberto Coin Fine Jewelry Fundraiser at The Chelsea in Atlantic City. This exciting event gave guests the chance to shop the classic and timeless collections of world renowned Italian designer Roberto Coin while raising funds to support The Utley Foundation.
